Two more prominent Massachusetts colleges are pushing for students and faculty to receive the COVID-19 vaccination before returning to campus for the fall semester.Boston College announced Friday it will require all students, faculty, and staff to be fully vaccinated with FDA-approved vaccines against COVID-19 before participating in any on-campus activities in the 2021-22 academic year.The college said exceptions will be granted for religious and medical reasons. “Boston College staff will assist international students and faculty who may have difficulty in meeting this vaccination requirement,” the school said. UMass Amherst says it will require all undergraduate and graduate students who wish to live, learn or conduct research on campus or access campus resources to be fully vaccinated prior to the beginning of the fall semester. The university is strongly encouraging and recommending all faculty and staff also get vaccinated prior to the beginning of the fall semester.”There is an operational imperative that faculty and staff who have been performing their duties remotely transition back to on-campus work,” Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy wrote in a note to the campus community.Northeastern, Boston University, and Emerson College are among the Massachusetts schools already requiring students to get vaccinated.
