ESPN’s Mark Teixeira: Reds had ‘worst executed double steal that I’ve ever seen’ in loss – The Cincinnati Enquirer

ESPN baseball analyst Mark Teixeira didn’t go easy on the Cincinnati Reds as highlights of Game 1 of their Wild Card series against the Atlanta Braves were shown on Baseball Tonight.

“Really bad baserunning,” Teixeira said of the Reds’ Nick Castellanos getting thrown out at third base on Joey Votto’s single with one out in the top of the sixth inning of Wednesday’s 1-0 loss in 13 innings. “In a 0-0 game, you have to be sure that you’re gonna make it to third base. That was too easy of a catch and throw for Adam Duvall. Castellanos was out by 10 feet.”

Oct 5, 2019; Bronx, NY, USA; Former New York Yankees' Mark Teixeira throws out a first pitch prior to the game of the Minnesota Twins against the New York Yankees in game two of the 2019 ALDS playoff baseball series at Yankee Stadium.

“I don’t know what this was. This was the worst executed double steal that I’ve ever seen,” Teixeira said of the Reds’ baserunning blunder in the top of the 7th. “I’m not sure what the Reds were trying – if there was a missed sign or what. Again, another opportunity against a really good Braves team. You’re the seventh seed on the road and you’re making mistakes left and right. … All game the Reds had opportunities – could not cash in though.”

Among reactions to the loss was this quote from manager David Bell, via The Enquirer’s John Fay:
