Gabby Petito case: Missing LI girl, Brian Laundrie ‘seemed happy’ on way to Yellowstone: shop owner – New York Post

2 min read

An Idaho business owner says Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, stopped into their store on their way to Yellowstone National Park — and both seemed “happy” and were chatting about their travel plans.

The owner of the Rustic Row in Victor claimed the couple popped into the shop for about 15 to 20 minutes on either Aug. 25 or Aug. 26, East Idaho News reported.

“They told me they were traveling from Florida. They had just been to Teton Park and they said they were interested in going to Yellowstone and I told them they could go to the west entrance,” the owner, who was not identified, told the outlet.

“They seemed happy and when they left, she hollered back from the door that they were engaged and then I said congratulations.”

The owner said they notified the FBI about the encounter in Victor, which is about 29 miles from Petito’s last known location in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

YouTubers Jenn and Kyle Bethune shared a video from Grand Teton on Aug. 27 that showed what appeared to be the 2012 van the couple had been traveling in.

Gabby Petito’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11 when they hadn’t heard from her.

“The van looked like it was pretty much kind of abandoned. We figured they were out hiking or just chilling inside,” Kyle said.

Petito, 22, last spoke with her family on Aug. 25 from Grand Teton, which is about 30 miles south of Yellowstone.

In the last text to her family on Aug. 30, Petito inexplicably said she didn’t have service in Yosemite — nearly 900 miles away, in California.

Search crews were looking for her in a campsite near Grand Teton on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation was underway in Florida to locate Laundrie, who authorities had declared a person of interest in the disappearance.

Laundrie’s parents said that he has also gone missing after returning to the state in the couple’s van without Petito on Sept. 1.

Search crews have been trying to find him in the Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, where his parents claim he went on a hike and never returned Tuesday, Fox News reported.

After the manhunt ended with “nothing found” on Saturday, crews reconvened again the following day in the nature preserve, where K-9 dogs were on the scene.
