Louisiana man missing after alligator attack in Ida flood waters – New York Post

1 min read

A Louisiana man went missing Monday after he was attacked by an alligator inside his shed that was flooded from Hurricane Ida, a report said.

The 71-year-old man’s wife witnessed the attack that took place at the couple’s home in Slidell, WWL-TV reported, citing the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office.

Located close to Lake Pontchartrain, the family’s shed was under several feet of water caused by the hurricane’s storm surge, the report said.

The wife heard a disturbance inside the shed and was able to initially rescue her husband, pulling him away from the gator, deputies said.

With no phone service and flooded streets, the woman used a boat to seek help, leaving her husband behind.

But when she returned, the man was nowhere to be found.

Ida slammed the area with ferocious winds and heavy rain after making landfall on Sunday. Two confirmed deaths in the state have been blamed on the storm.

Hurricane Ida left severe flooding in the region of Lake Pontchartrain.
