At least 20 people have been stuck on a tramway since 2 a.m., authorities said.

At least 20 people became trapped overnight in a tram car on the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico, authorities said.

The tram car has been stuck since 2 a.m. due to icy conditions in the area, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.

Rescue efforts are currently underway. Two to four people are being evacuated at a time via helicopter, the sheriff’s office said.

Metro Air Support and Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies are at the scene.

Sandia Peak Tramway general manager Michael Donavan told ABC Albuquerque affiliate KOAT all passengers are in good condition and have water and blankets on board the tram car.

The Sandia Peak Tramway is closed Saturday due to high winds, the company said.

The tram ride typically takes 15 minutes to the peak of the Sandia Mountains, and another 15 minutes back to the lower terminal.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
