Officers fatally shoot active shooter outside fire in Woodlawn – WBAL TV Baltimore

An active shooter is dead after killing two people and injuring two others, and firefighters have contained a fire at the scene, according to Baltimore County police.County police spokeswoman Joy Stewart said they received calls around 6:40 a.m. Saturday for a fire and an active shooter outside the 7300 block of Maury Road in Woodlawn.Stewart said officers responded and found a man outside a townhome who was armed and “that threat was neutralized.””The individual was armed when our officers arrived and this was a police-involved shooting,” Stewart said.At that point, firefighters were able to address the fire, which is related to the active shooter.Stewart said five people were involved in the incident. Police provided an update in the 1 p.m. hour, saying one suspect is dead, two victims are dead, one victim is critically injured and the fifth victim has non-life-threatening injuries. All victims are now accounted for.Stewart said there is no threat to the community.A resident told 11 News he heard gunshots around 7 a.m. and then saw fire coming from a home. He said he was “surprised” from what he saw and heard, saying it’s not normal for this neighborhood.Baltimore County fire spokesman Tim Rostkowski said the fire started in a townhome, escalated to two alarms, and spread to two other townhomes. He said two homes collapsed and a third suffered heavy damage.Rostkowski said the fire was fed by gas, including natural gas from the house. He said firefighters were waiting for Baltimore Gas and Electric crews to shut off the natural gas. BGE crews arrived but could not shut off the gas due to damage to equipment, and they have to dig a hole to the gas main to shut it off.Rostkowski said firefighters are unable to fully extinguish the fire until the gas is shut off, but the fire is contained.Rostkowski said urban search and rescue and hazardous materials teams are at the scene.
